10 Skin Care tips and tricks for any reason, season, or lifetime
“Be ageless, let your beauty be endless and your age – a mystery.”
The skin is the body’s largest organ which makes it critical to maintain skin health and proper skin maintenance year round and especially while traveling. Each season brings with it a unique challenge to maintaining healthy skin, BUT, there are some
practices that should be incorporated into your daily routine to maintain your skin’s youthful appearance.
As we move into the winter season, there are two factors stacked against our skin: cold dry air and warm dry air, both lacking the sufficient humidity required to maintain appropriate hydration levels in our skin.
Traversing between the outdoors and indoors subjects our skin to extremes in temperature which, when coupled with a parched atmosphere causes our skin to become dehydrated. With excessive loss of water, our skin will begin to chap, peel or flake and we certainly don’t want that.
Here are a few tips and tricks to help maintain hydrated healthy skin and so easy to keep up. May be a reminder for some or new to others, regardless, these tips will make a natural difference in your skin’s appearance.
1. EXFOLIATION – Recommended throughout the year to remove dead skin surface cells that dull the complexion and clog
pores. Limit exfoliation to twice weekly. Over exfoliation can damage living cells. The key to exfoliation: Do gently and with
lots of love, your skin will appreciate that.
2. CONSISTENT PROFESSIONAL TREATMENT – Even if you are traveling during the winter season, consistent skin care treatment ( by a professional) decreases the probability of developing hyperpigmentation and aids in achieving a more hydrated and even skin tone.
3. SUNSCREEN – Ok, here’s a big one. Sunscreen is required even in the winter months. Cooler weather can be mis-leading so don’t neglect proper UV protection, daily SPF 30. Remember to apply at least 30 minutes prior to exposure and reapply every two hours, or after swimming or perspiring for optimal protection.
4. USE OF CENTRAL HEAT – During your travels or at home, central heat may lead to drier skin so the best way to combat that dry air is a humidifier to replace air lost by artificial heating.
5. WATER – Water – Water – Drink lots of water for internal hydration and natural flushing of toxins out of your body.
My recommendation is to drink ALKALINE WATER. Our bodies tend to be more acidic which will allow disease or dis-orders
to develop if we are out of balance. Alkaline water neutralizes the acidity and balances out our ph system. This is awesome for
internal hydration but what about external hydration? So glad you asked that question and here is the answer: Use a hydrating mist to uplift, rehydrate and balance your skin externally. My recommendation is the JOY MIST ( pictured below). JOY MIST does smell divine, its formula is scientifically based to trigger joy with endorphin inducing ingredients …. A perfect and convenient mist that can be used even during the most chaotic moments of your day. Balance and hydration are the key points to remember. It’s travel size friendly, carry with you while traveling and especially on the airplane to keep your skin hydrated (everyone will want some of the mist so hide it in your purse. (1 oz size of Tecniche Joy Mist. Cost: $7.50.www.nurturingtouch.biz) When you feel joy without stress, your skin tends to be at its optimum perfection so why not look good and feel good.
6. DON’T LICK YOUR LIPS – Dry chapped lips normally occur from outdoor exposure in cold dry air or by sitting near the fireplace inside with warm dry air. That’s when the licking begins and chapstick applications are repeated over and over again to no avail because it evaporates immediately. Lips become dehydrated and chapped. Recommend lip balms that also contain sunscreen.
7. AVOID OVER WASHING YOUR FACE – The cells in our bodies have regular conversations through- out the day and become alarmed when protective oils are repeated washed away. Over washing your skin will strip it of moisturizing properties
and please no HOT water and avoid chlorine. Use lukewarm water to keep your skin hydrated, do not rub your skin, pat it dry and apply products immediately starting with your joy mist
8. EFA’s – Essential fatty acids (your omega-3) incorporate either through diet or supplementation as they aid in repairing and moisturizing your skin.
